Another new offering that we’ve joked about in the cellar for years. In my other life as a grape nurseryman, I get tons of calls every year from overly optimistic homeowners: They’ve just moved from suburbia and they bought this little property that is the next great micro climate. I love the excitement in these people’s voices. The ultimate romance and allure of wine grape vineyards. For years, I kicked around buying fruit from a bunch of these little slivers of grapevines and making a cuvee from them. I thought it was fitting to call it “Expensive Landscape” because, let’s be honest everyone, it might be great but it will never turn into the next grand cru. It still is a very special wine that isn’t repeatable anywhere else. Our 2018 Expensive Landscape came from a few side yards in the Edna Valley this past vintage. The sum of all the parts was really special. The best Pinot Noir I’ve bottled to date. Good vibes all coming together in bottled form.
