For 11 years, we’ve been making Chenin Blanc from the Jurassic Park vineyard. Located in Los Olivos and planted in the late ‘70s, the elder Chenin Blanc vines continue to represent the Field Recordings project best. The original underdog variety and vineyard. The Jurassic bottling always has a signature citrus note compared to our other vineyards in Paso Robles. We still get fruit from the same rows through the years, even as the vineyard has grown in popularity due to features in numerous publications nationally as ground zero for the Chenin Blanc revolution. We ferment in 1000L German Fuder barrels with native yeast. Light filtration prior to bottling. Cali Chenin in its finest form. There is a reason wineries use to pay farmers more in the ‘70s for Chenin than Cabernet.
Warm and toasty inside the shop. Cold concrete floors with a thin layer of shavings and dust. Perfectly ripe pears and hint of white pepper. Still amazed every year how this vineyard and its wine has evolved since we started with it in 2007.
