FROM ANDREW JONES
A wise man once said, you have to know when to hold ‘em and know when to fold ‘em…
Unfortunately that old lyric applies too many times to vineyards. As much as we tried to keep the old Chardonnay vines at the Carroll Vineyard fruitful, our efforts could not save the vines in the long run. Although it continued to put out the quality, the age of those old vines got the best of them. Stuff that is really unavoidable in the viticultural space. Vines must be pruned every year to produce a consistent crop. Unfortunately, every time you prune, you create wounds on the vines. Although we have material we can apply to seal the wounds, these old vines date back to the days of pre-wound protection.
In spite of mother nature getting the best of things, the vines did still produce fruit with amazing character and just the right level of acidity to match our perfect petillant natural formula. We treat things just the same as we have in the past. We take the first cut off the press and let it go wild in stainless steel until bottling just at the right time for the perfect mousse (aka bubble) in your glass. The second cut is then pressed onto a collection of highly aromatic hop varieties for one of our most favorite and definitely dankest concoctions created annually.
Although our Monte era has officially ended, it will be remembered and reveled for years to come if you somehow decide to sit on these babies in that wine fridge of yours. We all deal with these types of things differently. Jack and Tim always get on me for opening up these pups too early, but in the end, I’m one of those that unapologetically moves onto the next thing way too quickly. However you like to roll, I can guarantee you these bottles will make the perfect celebratory toast for whatever occasion you might be celebrating. Don’t cry cause it’s over, let’s party because it actually happened.
Cheers to all of you. Hope to see you sometime over the holidays in Tin City, but if we don’t get a chance to host you, don’t be shy in sharing those bottle pics with us as you celebrate a great winter season. Shoot us a DM or tag us @fieldrecordingwine. It makes my day to repost everything I get on the daily from y’all.
All the best,
Andrew and the team at Field Recordings
